The Sanchez Elementary School Garden has been growing with our neighborhood kids for close to 30 years. This special space sprouted to life in the 1990’s with labor and investment from former school principal Raymond Isola, neighborhood volunteers, and local businesses. Since its inception, the garden program has engaged generations of Sanchez students in hands-in-the-dirt learning that fosters curiosity, confidence, and community.
Our garden program goals align with our community values:
Strengthening student belonging and responsibility through environmental stewardship.
Building healthy nutrition and activity habits.
Advancing academic learning through hands-on engagement.
Fostering emotional intelligence through collaborative activities that inspire wonder, resilience, and connection—an antidote to stress within our increasingly contentious world.

In 2025, Sanchez Elementary School lost significant funding due to SFUSD budget cuts at the same time as the federal program, “FoodCorps,” that provided our garden educator interns, was dismantled. To recover from this double-whammy deficit, we need to raise $30,000 each year to sustain our program. We are confident we can do this with your help!
An estimate of what donations to our garden program will cover:
Garden educator salary, 20 hours/week x 36 weeks @ $38/hour = $27,360
Materials & upkeep = $2,640
Please DONATE today through our Stripe fundraiser and help us get to 30k. Any amount helps!

A note on funding: Sanchez Elementary is a Title One public school - a large majority of our student families have very limited resources. Unlike some schools with the ability to raise program funds internally through well-resourced parent groups, we instead rely on the partnership of our broader community. Thank you for pitching in to help our children and neighborhood thrive!
